I would like to recommend and give a 5 star rating to my new friend and birding guide extraordinaire Carlos Henrique. As a US based Airline Captain I sometimes get very little advance notice of my future schedule. This was the case when I learned I would be laying over in Campinas, Brazil for 5 days during the New Years holiday (2010). I contacted Carlos on 11/30/09 and informed him of my desire to go birding during that time. By coincidence, Carlos had already made plans with his wife Viviane, and two other couples to go birding in Intervales SP, and had already booked rooms in a Lodge at Intervales. I found Carlos to be very patient, and extremely knowledgeable. He knew all of the birds by call and by their English names. During our 2 full days and 2 half days of birding, we identified 135 different species of birds. This experience more than exceeded my expectations. Carlos has a gentle spirit, and a great desire to cater to your every need. I came away from this experience with six new very dear friend, and many special memories. Thank you Carlos for your gentle spirit, love of birding, and caring personality.

On our birding trip to Brazil Carlos Henrique guided us in Itatiaia National Park. Carlos was very knowledgeable about the bird species of the area and where to find them. He used playback to entice the birds into view, provided a checklist of the area, and emailed us after the trip with additional information. Carlos was able to show us many birds of the Atlantic Forest. He has a comfortable vehicle for mountain roads. Although we do not speak Portuguese, we were able to converse in English. We recommend his services as a birding guide.

O birdwatching na Chácara Canto da Mata em Sousas - Campinas - SP foi muito legal porque o Carlos e a Viviane, além de serem grandes conhecedores de nossas aves silvestres livres, têm toda uma maneira agradável e paciente com a turma, muitos deles iniciantes neste hobby maravilhoso. Os recursos de áudio são muito importantes o que garante a presença de muitas aves bastante próximas dos observadores. Conheci o Carlos Henrique e a Viviane por indicação da Bacury. Entrei em contato com eles, e pedi um lugar no interior de São Paulo, nas imediações de Campinas, em que eu pudesse ver o soldadinho (Helmeted Manakin) e o beija-flor-de-veste-preta (Black-throated Mango). Ele me disse que conhecia um lugar onde veríamos o soldadinho com certeza e talvez o beija-flor. Nos encontramos no sábado, na fazenda que ele indicou. Carlos Henrique e Viviane foram pontuais, atenciosos, bem simpáticos, e conseguimos ver o soldadinho. Carlos Henrique tem boa audição para reconhecer os cantos.
